About me

I am Adeline Kikam, a  Board Certified Medical and Cosmetic  Dermatologist. Put simply, I was inspired to become a dermatologist because of struggles I faced with my own skin while growing up; that and a lack of access to dermatologic care fueled my interest in decoding the vast and information-rich field that is Dermatology as well as the desire to spread this wealth of knowledge with everyone willing to listen.  As a natural extension of this goal, I launched my social media platform “Brown Skin Derm” at the beginning of my dermatology residency in order to fill the void of evidence-based information particularly for black and brown skin. I wanted to create a trusted space for expert-led skin care knowledge, as well as highlight common dermatologic conditions and issues with access to care for melanin-rich skin.

In addition to discussing medical conditions, I also tackle the breathtaking and rapidly evolving world of aesthetic procedures, review skincare products, and I frequently feature other dermatologists and organizations that offer resources for skin of color. Today my followers are a diverse group of individuals hailing from all corners of the world; Asians, Latinx, Africans, African-Americans, Middle Eastern, you name it.  Slowly but surely, the landscape of dermatology is changing and people of color everywhere demand to see themselves reflected in the way skin care is discussed. I recently contributed to a newly released comprehensive dermatology atlas that features common skin conditions presented across five major skin tones, a resource I never had during my medical training that is now available to professionals far and wide.  In 2022, I will be launching Brown Skin Derm Consult, an international telederm platform that will help improve access for communities of color with Dermatologists knowledgeable in treating skin of color.  Social media has been a transforming and impactful tool for me to combine my passion to educate and provide care beyond my immediate community.
